svalbard to greenland expedition

cruise to the edge – and beyond

Explore the raw and remote Arctic wilderness of Svalbard and Greenland on our 14-day journey above the Arctic Circle. This voyage offers wonderful opportunities for tundra and sometimes glacier walking, exploring fjords by kayak, ship and Zodiac, viewing dramatic landscapes and encountering Arctic wildlife in near 24-hour daylight.

Spitsbergen, where we begin our voyage, is the largest island within the Svalbard archipelago, located in the High Arctic, between northern Norway and the North Pole. Spitsbergen has a population of 3,500 residents, the primary centre being the port of Longyearbyen where we will board our ship.

From Svalbard we head to spectacular East Greenland, home to the world’s largest fjord system, massive glaciers and enormous icebergs. We aim to reach Scoresby Sund, a favourite hunting ground of the local Inuit hunters who eke out a living in one of the harshest and most isolated environments on the planet. From Greenland we head for Iceland, the land of fire and ice and disembark the Polar Pioneer in Akuyeri.

Cruise

Choose our base cruise option and explore at your own pace, with gentle strolls or active hikes led by our expert naturalists and historians. Take in the sights on a zodiac cruise or simply sit and admire the magnificent surroundings.

All zodiac cruises and regular shore excursions are included in the trip cost.

Cruise & Kayak

Guests who choose this package will use the ship as a comfortable floating base camp, paddling at every opportunity and returning to the comfort of meals and cosy cabins. We hope to paddle one to two times a day, with most outings ranging from two-and-a-half to four hours, including shore landings and walking opportunities.

The flexibility of kayaking with a small private group ensures a unique experience, with the quiet dip of your paddle perfectly suited to these awe-inspiring surroundings.
