a lodge-based kayak adventure in an iconic tasmanian location

The Tasman Peninsula, located in south-east Tasmania, is surrounded by the Tasman Sea to the south and east, Storm Bay to the west and to the north by Norfolk Bay. The coastline, largely covered by national park, is made up of spectacular dolerite cliffs, beautiful sandy beaches and sheltered bays, making it an ideal paddling destination.

We’ll encounter an abundance of flora and fauna, both on the water and on short but spectacular walks. Our base is a private lodge built for peace, privacy and comfort. Join us on a Tasmanian escape, exploring the diversity of the Peninsula’s stunning sea and landscapes.

Day 1

Make your way to our Hobart group hotel. Enjoy staying in the centre of Hobart with galleries, cafes, restaurants and wine bars at your doorstep.

Overnight hotel.

Day 2

Meet your kayak guide for the transfer to the Tasman Peninsula. The adventure begins with a short paddle to Port Arthur historic site, where we experience a unique view from the water. Continuing our paddles south, we pass dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches before finishing at Safety Cove. Transfer to our private lodge, home for the next three nights.

Day 3

Today’s paddle is towards Cape Hauy, one of the highlights of the Three Capes Track. If the weather allows, we’ll paddle to the base of the Candle Stick, a mecca for rock climbers from around the world. Located nearby is a seal haul-out where we can pause while Australian fur seals play around us. Returning to the shelter of the bay, we explore hidden coves before heading back to the lodge.

Day 4

Today we explore Lime Bay Coastal Reserve, taking in pretty lagoons, eucalypt woodlands and convict history. On our northwards paddle, we pass delicate sandstone cliffs and sandy beaches, spotting stingrays and sea eagles along the way. Transfer back to the lodge for a last-night celebration dinner.

Day 5

This morning, we launch the kayaks from the shelter of Pirates Bay and experience true ocean kayaking as we paddle south past the Tasman Arch and Blowhole. Towering sea cliffs, deep sea caves and abundant marine life are highlights of today’s paddle.

Transfer to Hobart. Trip concludes.

Tasmania by Kayak, Trip advisor.

The Three Capes Paddle organised by Southern Sea Ventures was a fantastic experience. Well organised, with great support from the guides and with wonderful food and ambiance at the Bolthole.

A highly recommended experience for beginner or advanced kayakers alike.

Great trip, excellent paddling, great crew, wonderful food

I recently did the Three Capes Paddle in Tasmania and had an absolutely wonderful time. Toby, Dan and Heather are excellent guides and made our four days of paddling very enjoyable to say the least. They made sure we saw lots of great scenery, wildlife and learned about the evolution of the landscape and history of the region. A very rich and rewarding holiday, with lots of great local food and drink to sustain us and a very comfortable place to rest up each night. Definitely, up for more paddling adventures with these guys.
