sea kayak, snorkel and dive Komodo to Sumbawa
This incredible sea kayaking expedition explores the spectacular islands, reefs and coastlines between Komodo National Park and Sumbawa, travelling aboard the beautifully appointed live aboard vessel Jakaré. Combining world-class paddling, remote tropical islands, vibrant coral reefs and remarkable wildlife encounters, this journey is designed specifically for adventurous kayakers seeking an immersive experience through one of Indonesia’s most beautiful marine regions.
Beginning in Labuan Bajo on Flores Island, the expedition ventures through the legendary waters of Komodo National Park before continuing westward towards the lesser-visited islands and bays of northern Sumbawa. Throughout the journey we explore by kayak, snorkel and optional scuba diving, discovering hidden beaches, coral gardens, rugged volcanic islands and quiet anchorages inaccessible to larger vessels.
Komodo National Park is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, crystal-clear waters and extraordinary biodiversity. Here we paddle beneath steep volcanic ridges, through turquoise bays and along island coastlines inhabited by the famous Komodo dragon. Further north, the islands surrounding Gili Lawa and Pulau Banta offer spectacular kayaking amongst rugged shorelines and remote coral reefs.
As we continue towards Sumbawa, the scenery transitions to quieter islands, pink sand beaches, jungle-covered interiors and calm bays rich in marine life. Highlights may include kayaking at Pantai Merah (Pink Beach), exploring the reefs and waterfalls of Pulau Moyo and snorkelling with whale sharks in Saleh Bay.
A live aboard expedition allows us to maximise time exploring remote locations while enjoying excellent comfort, delicious meals and flexible daily planning. Each evening we return to Jakaré to relax, enjoy sunset views and share stories from the day’s adventures.
This expedition combines active paddling, wildlife encounters, cultural experiences and marine exploration into an unforgettable Indonesian island adventure.
